1. Pikes Peak

Famous for the hymn “America the Beautiful” which Katharine Lee Bates wrote the words from atop the mountain, this is a must see for anyone visiting Colorado Springs. Take the Cog Railway or Drive the Pikes Peak Highway, your choice!  And, when you’re at the “Top of the World”, be sure to try one of the famous donuts. You try baking at 14,000 feet! 2. Garden of the Gods

This National Natural Landmark features towering red rock formations and free entry, making it one of the best places to visit in Colorado Springs. The outstanding geological features of the park are the highly visible sedimentary rock formations. These rocks were created as ancient mountains eroded and were buried in their own sediments. Massive sand dunes moved across the land, and shallow seas and deeper oceans encroached and retreated. Stop at the Garden of the Gods Visitors Center before you start your tour of the park to give a great overview. Drive through or park the car and take the well maintained trails to get a closer look. From Balanced Rock to the Siamese Twins, you’ll be impressed by these sandstone rock formations. Consider a stop at the Garden of the Gods Trading Post, a privately owned store with an extensive selection of Colorado art and crafts so you can take a quality souvenir home with you or grab a bite at their restaurant and snack bar. 6. Manitou Cliff Dwellings

Explore historic cliff dwellings and learn about our Pikes Peak region’s Native American culture and history. The Manitou Cliff Dwellings Preserve is comprised of stones gathered from a collection of twenty-five mesa top dwellings located on private farmland a few miles northeast of McElmo Canyon, near Dolores Colorado.  These dwellings were partially buried and scattered amongst farming fields.  In the early 1900’s these structures were slated to be bulldozed over to create additional farmland for the existing farmers in the area and the dwelling stones were to be used to line the irrigation ditches. While not originally built in the area, the museum provides a glimpse into our rich Native American history.  *Reservations not needed
