Vic the Elk Grazes at Holden House in February

The life-size fiberglass elk, owned by Experience Colorado Springs at Pikes Peak, is working his way around the Pikes Peak region. First stop on the historic Westside is Holden House 1902 Bed & Breakfast. Vic has previously graced the grounds of the Cripple Creek Heritage Center and Experience Colorado Springs at Pikes Peak Convention and Visitor's Bureau, just in time for December's Festival of Lights. Now, Vic the elk has landed in the front yard of Holden House 1902 Bed & Breakfast in the Old Colorado City area of Colorado Springs. He’ll spend February here before heading to another tourist destination. The hand painted elk features Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, the Julie Penrose fountain, Colorado columbines and more area icons. As a unique memento of your stay, guests to the inn can have their photo taken with the life-sized Pikes Peak elk. And, don't be surprised to see special decorations adorning Vic during February for Valentine month! Can you guess?

It's no wonder why Katharine Lee Bates wrote America the Beautiful from atop our famous Pikes Peak. The scenic beauty of Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region offers something for everyone. “The Springs” is located just 60 miles south of Denver with its own convenient regional airport. Nestled nearby is the historic Holden House, an Award-Winning storybook Victorian treasure that caters to romantics and business travelers alike. Centrally located just one mile from downtown on a residential tree-lined street near historic "Old Colorado City", the inn offers free off-street parking and five inviting guest suites each boasting antiques, a fireplace, sitting area, telephone with modem hook-up, refrigerator, television and DVD player, private label amenities, luxurious robes, private bath with oversized bubble bath 'tubs for two', and a morning breakfast culinary delight! Take a Virtual Tour to experience the inn from 360 degrees. You’ll enjoy relaxing in our many common areas; the antique-filled living room with fireplace and wingback chairs, the verandah with old fashioned porch swings, views of the mountains and our Victorian cottage garden, or the secret back garden with fountains and a gazebo. For those traveling on business, we offer an early riser's breakfast, wireless high-speed internet access and a business center with the modern convenience of a computer workstation.

Savor our gourmet breakfasts, served in the elegant formal dining room, which might include freshly baked Cinnamon Streusel muffins, Sallie's famous Southwestern Eggs Fiesta, fresh fruit, gourmet freshly ground coffee, tea and juice. Your full breakfast is included, served in the dining room, or indulge in our breakfast en suite “Romance Package”, delivered to your door for an additional charge. Complimentary refreshments, an afternoon wine social, our legendary bottomless cookie jar, and turndown service are just some of the individual touches you'll find here. We offer special packages for all occasions, such as a relaxing massage at the exclusive Garden of the Gods Club or champagne and flowers on arrival. Distinctive hospitality and personalized service is our hallmark.

Innkeepers, Sallie and Welling Clark, meticulously restored the property in 1986 and continue to own and operate the inn, and uphold high standards at Holden House. In addition to their innkeeping duties, Sallie is an El Paso County Commissioner and Welling a Research Scientist. The Clarks also offer consulting and seminars for aspiring innkeepers. Sallie and Welling and their attentive assistant innkeeping staff, will help you plan your itinerary around the many activities in the Pikes Peak Region. From outdoor adventures such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, carriage rides, golf, rock climbing, and whitewater rafting to sightseeing at Garden of the Gods and Red Rock Canyon Parks or Pikes Peak, you’ll want to return time and time again. Among our many events, you won’t want to miss the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Territory Days, SpringsSpree, the Renaissance Festival in Larkspur, Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon, Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, Colorado Balloon Classic, IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial, Air Force Academy and Colorado College Graduation/Homecomings and the Holiday Festival of Lights, just to name a few.
